David and Janice Dorward

Meet David

David has lived in the Edmonton-Gold Bar constituency for over 50 years.  He attended Avonmore, Donnan and Bonnie Doon Composite High School.  He is a graduate of the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology and the University of Alberta.

David is a person who invests in the community through everything he does.  David has taken diverse opportunities to improve his community.  A true people person, his passion to help others has compelled him to contribute to the community through:

  • Serving on local and provincial boards including the Edmonton Epilepsy Association and Basketball Alberta;
  • Coaching youth basketball for over 12 years, David also organized the basketball program for many of the communities in Gold Bar
  • Founding the GO Centre, the largest community and sport centre of its type in North America, as well as serving as President of the Edmonton Grads   Basketball Centre, the group that operates basketball programming at the GO Centre;
  • Serving the United Way Director of Finance and AdministrationServing as a board member and past President of the Children’s Ability Fund, an organization that provides specialized equipment to improve the lives of people with disabilities; and
  • Acting as a Scouter for 17 years. David has his Woodbadge training, and was a trainer in the Scouts Canada system for 3 years.

Having founded his own company – Dorward & Company Chartered Accountants – 18 years ago, David fosters a positive and supportive work environment for his staff. An experienced Chartered Accountant and Certified Management Accountant, he helps a wide base of clients to reach their business  and personal potential.

David has been recognized for his community and professional work; he received an honorable mention for the Alberta Outstanding Community Leader award, presented by Hon Lt. Governor Norman Kwong. His firm was a finalist for Small Business of the Year award, 2009.

As a husband to his wife Janice of 38 years, father of four, grandfather of 12 and long standing participant in the Gold Bar community, David can relate to individual and  family issues. David is a problem solver who looks deeper into issues to develop the best solutions. At home, in the community and in his work, David strives to make the City a better place. With a head for business and a heart for people, he is the right person to lead Gold Bar into its future.
